Baglung, Jan 4: Oranges worth about Rs 50 million were sold from Bihu VDC itself in the district this year.
About 900 metric tonnes of oranges were produced from orange trees, according to the statistics of District Agriculture Office.
Farmers share that a single orange tree can produce 50 to 500 kg oranges in a season. According to local farmers, oranges are sold for Rs 30 per kilogramme in the garden itself so the farmers did not have any difficulties to sell their oranges.
The DADO office states that the orange production is likely to decrease by 10 to 15 per cent in comparison to the past year. The DADO sources said that about 10,000 orange saplings were growing in the Bihu VDC itself.
Including Bihu VDC, Bhakunde, Jaidi, Chhisti, Harichaur, Damek, Narethanti are the pocket area for orange production in the district.
