Discussion on National Medical Education Bill held

Kathmandu: A discussion between the concerned ministers and stakeholders on the National Medical Education Bill that is currently under deliberation was held at the parliamentary committee meeting here today.

The discussed held at the meeting of Committee on Women, Children, Senior Citizens and Social Welfare was aimed at facilitating the talks between the government team and agitating Dr Govinda KC.

Present at the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education Gopal Man Shrestha, Health Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel, former Minister for Education Dhaniram Poudel, former Health Minister Gagan Thapa and the Chief Whips of the major political parties.

The senior orthopedic surgeon at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Dr KC, has been staging a fast-unto-death at TUTH at Maharajgunj in Kathmandu for the 11th time. Dr KC, whose hunger strike entered 10th day today, has been pressing for overall reforms in the health and medical education sector in the country.

He also demands amendment to the draft of the Bill.

Today’s meeting held at the chairmanship of Committee’s Chairperson Ranju Kumari Jha has decided to reach the conclusion by holding further discussion and deliberations on the same.
