Protest over medical colleges flouting merit rule in admission fee

Kathmandu: The private medical colleges affiliated to the Tribhuvan University taking admission fee by ignoring the merit rule has drawn flak. After the medical colleges took more fee than what the government fixed for the post graduate quota, the objections surfaced significantly.

Doctors’ Society of Nepal issued a press release Sunday, warning of protest if the admission fee was not taken in line with merit list determined by the Institute of Medicine (IoM). Society’s Acting Chairman Dr Kalu Singh Khatri and Acting General Secretary Dr Toshima Karki reiterated that they would launch vigorous protest if the college continued flouting the government rule.

According to them, the doctors with merit and seeking admission for the postgraduate study were not allowed admission in the private medical colleges. They further argued that it was mistakes on the part of TU Council and IoM behind the repetition of such problem.
