Itahari: At a time when social media users are criticized for being ‘unsocial’ for their increasing virtual indulgence, some twitter handlers from East Nepal are using twitter platform for social cause. Leaving aside their personal tweet, retweet and other entertaining stuffs online, these social media users have been supporting various philanthropic social endeavors. Having supported some economically troubled patients struggling to pay their hospital bills with their fundraiser, twitter users these days are reaching out to marginalized Mushar communities in the suburb of Itahari. ‘We are collecting warm clothes and bed for poor communities as winter comes equally to all’, says Hira Acharya, the chair of Twiterian Society.
Established as a loose social media network to support social cause, Twiterian Society has now been officially registered at District Administration Office of Sunsari, Nepal. ‘We campaigned our cause from twitter platform itself but to make fundraiser we required a formally registered institution and we registered our society’, says Kundan Adhikari, the Dharan chapter chief of the society.
Twiterian society has distributed warm winter clothes for 47 Mushar communities of Itahari, says this vibrant social media group. ‘Ours is mission to conect society and social media platform of twitter for societal developments’, says Proneefoli, one of the dozens of twitter campaigners and coordinator of Twiterian Society’s social endeavors.
