Noted Folk singer Gurung laid to rest

Kathmandu, Aug 28: Last rites of well-known Nepali folk singer Khemraj Gurung were performed late Sunday evening at the Pashupati Aryaghat. Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Kumar Karki was at Pashupati to pay his last tribute to the mortal body of Gurung who passed away last Thursday. CPN (UML) acting Chair Bamdev Gautam draped the party flag on his body.

Earlier, his body was taken to his hometown Khandbari on a helicopter for last tribute. A score of people gathered at the district headquarters to pay their last respects to the signer of the golden hit typical Nepali folk song of the eastern hills ‘Wari Jamuna Pari Jamumna Jamunako Phedaima Manakamana’ that took Gurung to a new height of Nepali music. He is considered as the only national level singer from Sankhuwasabha.
He succumbed to complications caused by jaundice on August 25 at Chabahil-based Medicare National Hospital and Research Center. He was 42.
